River House – Portsmouth, New Hampshire

It’s one of those rare times in a year that Hubsy becomes available from his hectic schedule so we decided to book a trip to New Hampshire.

Two years ago we stayed in Portsmouth and decided that we love the simple and laid back life of New Hampshire. Not to the extent of moving states but it’s a really calm and relaxed town.

People are friendly and I feel a content vibe from the locals.

River House is quite special to us. Two years ago, we were scouting for a good restaurant in Portsmouth and we chanced upon this restaurant, went inside, saw this beautiful view at the patio and πŸ’₯ we hit the jackpot!

We arrived at the Hampton Inn, checked-in, placed our belongings and decided to have lunch at River House. We walked from the hotel to the restaurant and it was an easy stroll, went inside and ushered to the same seat two years ago. It was that nostalgic feeling, we were handed the menu and ordered the exact same food we ordered. πŸ˜‚

The Hubsy ordered a local IPA and I had Sparkling water, my fave is San Pellegrino with πŸ‹.

We split an order of SautΓ©ed Mussels (Gorgonzola cheese, tomatoes, onion) and I savored every bite.

This is highly recommended πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

Hubsy decided that the Steamed mussels is better with garlic bread. He told our waitstaff and after a few minutes we were handed garlic bread.

Our waitstaff has a plastered permanent smile on her. It was just there, it never leaves. A little awkward but I give her a πŸ‘πŸΌ for the customer service.

Corned Beef Reuben (corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, 1000 island dressing, rye)

The Hubsy is a big fan of Reuben. This is his go-to whenever it’s on the menu.

He gives this a πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Atlantic Salmon (salmon chargrilled to medium, topped with mango salsa, served with rice and veggies)

And I am telling you, this is my favorite ever! I love salmon but the combination of salmon and mango salsa just melts in my mouth and produce unbelievable music translated to my palate.

I am giving this a πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

Hubsy has a more sophisticated palate than me. My food review will just vary from good, better, great or bad, worse, worst. He was more elaborate of his description but he was too tired from driving and quite hangry. So instead he just said he loves the food and can’t wait to go 🏑.

I enjoy coming back to this restaurant, I love the view and the customer service. But mostly, I love the food.

The appetizers were amazing and I savored every bite. I’m no food critic but I love food. And both the Mussels and Salmon were spectacular. Especially the Salmon which was cooked perfectly to my liking.

Will I ever go back to New Hampshire? Maybe not in the near future. It took us 2 years to come back and everything looks exactly the same with a few additional changes for the better. Like Dos Amigos Restaurant is right next to the Hamptons Inn which is very convenient.

Do I like to come back? Absolutely!

But there are 50 states in πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ and so far we’ve only limited ourselves to Rhode Island (where we live) Massachusetts, Maine (but I’m coming back this year!), New York, New Jersey, North Carolina and Florida.

So we wanted to perhaps travel more. Here’s to hoping! 🀞🏼
