Is the Caleruega Chapel worth the travel?
I normally would not touch the subject about Religion. Once (in Dubai) I was sitting on a bench waiting for a bus with my friend BB and this guy decided to lecture me about God. I rebuff tackling this subject because I refuse to discuss my faith to anyone. It is between me and my God. You have no say on what I should (and should not) believe. I am my own person. Deal with it.
Anyway, I told the guy that I respect his beliefs and he should respect mine. So, beat it! At first he was adamant to inculcate me about who to believe in but when he realized that I am in no mood for a dialogue, I think he got the point.
I am not a very religious person (I rarely go to church) but I have FAITH that there is an unseen mover of all. This post is not about FAITH or religion, it’s about this church which attracts me because of its solemnity.
There are very few churches who calms me and I am not a very tranquil person. Quiapo Church gives me the power of hope and persistence, it will always be on my top list. Manila Cathedral gives me inner peace. Daraga Church will always be close to my heart for personal reasons.
The beauty and serenity of Caleruega Chapel captivated me. It’s surroundings makes you closer with nature and provides calmness. You have to pay an entrance fee to be able to be accommodated inside, I was told it’s a donation.
Although it is tacky to actually be asked for an entrance fee in a church, I felt that it is also fair because this Chapel has a lot of guests/visitors everyday and the maintenance itself is expensive. The premises is well kept and their garden is full of cute details. Although I was not able to use their restroom, I was told that it is equally clean and well-maintained.
To say that the TRAVEL (from Bicol to Batangas) is worthwhile is an understatement. Xx
